HOW AURYXIA WORKS TO LOWER PHOSPHATE

AURYXIA® (ferric citrate) helps lower the amount of phosphate in your blood

1. TAKE WITH MEALS

Always take AURYXIA (ah-RICKS-ee-ah) with food, just as your healthcare provider tells you

2. BREAKS APART

After AURYXIA enters your stomach, the pill breaks apart and releases iron in your intestines

3. REMOVES PHOSPHATE

Iron binds (attaches) to the phosphate that was in your food. The bound iron then carries that phosphate to your colon, where it is removed through your bowel movements

4. MAY INCREASE IRON

Leftover iron from AURYXIA may be absorbed into your body. Make sure to speak with your healthcare provider about checking your iron levels while taking AURYXIA

Absorbable iron and your phosphate treatment: what you need to know

AURYXIA can increase iron levels in your blood. Iron absorbed from AURYXIA may also increase iron in your body.

  • Your healthcare provider will monitor your iron levels
  • If you are receiving intravenous (IV) iron, your IV iron dose may be adjusted or discontinued
  • Do not take AURYXIA if you have been diagnosed with an iron overload syndrome, such as hemochromatosis
  • Keep AURYXIA away from children to prevent an accidental ingestion of iron and potentially fatal poisoning. Call a poison control center or your healthcare provider if a child swallows AURYXIA

AURYXIA contains iron and may cause dark stools, which is considered normal with oral medications containing iron
